    Dear Sir

I deeply apologize to write in English, but unfortunately I do not write nor read in German.

This message have the objective of asking for your help in the research I am doing to discover the history of my German ancestors, their trip from Germany to Brazil in 1828, and the life of their descendents in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. My father began this research fifty years ago and in 1995 I became interested and continued his work.
A document I found in the Brazilian National Archive in Rio de Janeiro, indicates that the family embarked in Bremen. It is the "List of the young men that will enter in the Military Service of His Majesty after their arrival in Rio de Janeiro", signed in September 17th, 1828, by the Consul of the Empire of Brazil in Bremmen, where one can read under the number 28, the name of João Pedro Licht or Johann Peter Licht (my 2nd great-grand father).
This Johann Peter Nicolau Licht , this was his very name, was one of the children of Karl Licht (my 3rd great-grand father) and Anna Maria (my 3rd great-grand mother).
From other documents, I know he was born in Dusemund, Rheinland-Pfalz and arrived in the town of Porto Alegre, capital of the Province of Rio Grande do Sul by land on August 15th, 1831, as a soldier coming from Rio de Janeiro. He struggled in the civil war known as “War of the Rags” and later he married Maria Margaretha Becker Werlang (born at Wiebelsheim bei Oberwesel am Rhein), settled down in the town of Porto Alegre where they left many descendents.
Karl and Anna Maria also had a daughter, Johanna Franziska and a son Johann Peter Conrad. I got a copy of a document that shows this family group leaving Rio de Janeiro in March 29th , 1829, embarked on the Brazilian Brig "10 de Maio" to the Saint Leopold's German Colony, in the Province of Rio Grande do Sul (southern Brazil). Two months later, in May 10th, 1829 there was an arrival registry of the two children, so I suppose that the parents (Karl and Anna Maria) had died in the boat during the trip. Few weeks later, in the end of June of 1829, also the daughter Johanna died in the Colony of Saint Leopold. After that, Johann Peter Conrad Licht, was incorporated to the Brazilian Imperial Army and struggled against the Army of Argentina in the so called Cisplatine War. He also participate as a Brazilian Squad Cape in the Paraguay War. Lefting the Army, he settled down in the village of Santa Maria da Boca do Monte (current city of Santa Maria), where he married Maria Isabel Knewitz Drück and left many descendents.
I am writing a book about the origins and life of the Family Licht in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and as a result of my research I built up a genealogical file with approximately 1,000 descendents of the couple Karl Licht and Anna Maria.
From many documents, I am now sure that my ancestors were catholic and came from Dusemund – Brauneberg, so I searched in the Internet and found many people in this city with the same family name, probably with common ancestors to me.
If you know a researcher or anyone that is interested in the genealogy of the Family Licht from the former village of Dusemund or the neighbor villages, please send me his address or eMail.
I would like to count with your help to obtain any other information that help me to re-establish my family roots, to make a contact to a distant cousin and as soon as possible to finish my book.

I thank you for any help you can give me.
I wish you a wonder and full of pace New Year
    Friendly
